How did Positively 3rd Street Bakery get started?
In 1983 a small group of individuals formed Positively 3rd Street Bakery by purchasing an old corner store in Central Hillside Duluth with the goal of producing affordable whole grain baked goods (which were hard to find at that time).
What inspires you to be bakers?
The inspiration to bake has remained the same since the start. We wish to provide our community with affordable and delicious baked goods made with organic locally sourced ingredients. In more recent years, our bakers have experimented with new products and we love seeing our customers faces light up when they see something they haven’t tried before.
What’s your favorite item that you make?
Our Sourdough Bread and it is a favorite of workers and patrons alike. We have been using the same culture for 30 years!
What’s something most people don’t know about Positively 3rd Street?
Something that most people don’t know about us is that we are a worker owned cooperative. Every worker has an equal share of the business and an equal vote. We operate democratically on and off the work floor and are passionate about workers rights.
