May’s Featured Artist: Scott James King

I am a graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with a Bachelor’s degree in fine arts. I was employed at the Minneapolis Institute of Art for 20 years. I have been retired since 2018. I have shown recently at the Miner’s Dry in the Ely Watercolor Club and a three person fine arts show in 2022.

My work explores the personal through the use of symbols and imagery that wrestle with themes of identity, relationships, love, sex and death. By experimenting, exploring and sometimes excavating layers of color, line and form, I attempt to understand the world, family, friends, myself and my place in it.

I usually begin my process with a drawing or image and develope it with acrylic, oil, water color or collage. Occasionally I employ printmaking, photography and digital processes to supplement the final composition.
