My name is Pam Rooney, living in Hibbing the past 3 years since moving from International Falls.
When I was young, my Mom would sit us down at the table and we would draw, color and play drawing games – it’s what she loved to do and my siblings and I thought it was great fun.
Drawing faces was always interesting to me and I drew charcoal portraits for a long time. Later I began painting, wishing I would have started much earlier! It’s a fun thing to do in my spare time.
I also take a lot of pictures – mostly of my grandchildren – and they make great subjects! I find myself smiling while I paint them. It’s so much fun in the process to sometimes see their parents or another relative pop through them.
With a desire to create more than just portraits, I’ll sometimes try painting scenery or animals.
Acrylic paints are what I’ve been using, although I’ve done a few with oils in the past. I enjoy any anything I can do to be creative.
My art means so much to me. Painting is comforting, relaxing and something I can do. It’s satisfying to complete a painting and make someone smile when they see it’s someone they love or somewhere they’ve been.
