April’s Featured Artist: Julie Renollet

I like to do creative projects using many mediums. Right now I’m loving pressed flower art. Some phases I’m doing beaded sun catchers with drift wood, other times I’m doing needle wool felting (which is very tedious.)

I don’t think of myself as an artist, just a person who likes to use things that catch my eye and then rearrange them into a pattern.

Finding flowers and greenery to press is very therapeutic and a ton of fun. Taking walks or ATV’ing in the woods always yields me shouting “Stop! I see something!” And this happens many, many times in an outing (to the tad bit frustration of my spouse).

I press my found flora and fauna in books and wait a few weeks. That is a thrilling moment for me when I open the pages and discover if the color and texture retained nicely. Many do not, but some are glorious!

I find inspiration everywhere. I might even see something someone threw away and think, “That might  have potential if….” But my favorite inspiration would have to be the woods, feather, fur, and fin right down to cool teeny bugs. Observe and ask yourself where are these busy little guys going? No one knows! Next time you are in the woods, or just outside on a walk, look for things you haven’t noticed before. You might be like me and say, “Stop! I see something!”
