October’s Featured Artist

The Co-op’s featured artist during the of October is Margie Helstrom. Margie enjoys working with water-based mediums such as watercolor, acrylic paints, and gauche. We asked her a handful of questions to learn more about her work, read on to learn more.

Why Do You Make This Type of Art?

“My inspiration comes from light, shadows, natural arrangement, patterns of nature and the interpretation of interior and exterior experiences.  I continue to be in awe of the incredible beauty in our world and the creator of it; I identify with the Don Clark quote:  “My faith dictates every aspect of my being. Art is just one outpouring of that”.”

What Does Your Artwork Represent?

“My artwork represents what is visible to all but represented in a way that has not been seen.”

What Inspires You?

“I am excited and motivated by color and pattern and great composition. Picking a favorite anything is always hard for me, but I think line could be my favorite design element.”

How Do You Make It?

“I currently use all water-based media – watercolor, acrylic, and gauche.  I also like to mix watercolor crayons, markers, and pens into my work. I like the easy cleanup of water-based materials. I like the transparency and versatility of watercolor. I like the quick drying of acrylic. I love the energy that using the mark-making tools adds to a painting.”

What Does Your Art Mean to You?

“I put a lot of value into the power of art. It can heal, inspire, educate, comfort and bring hope and joy to the viewer.”
