Visit to Fat Chicken Farm

A beautiful morning in Embarrass, MN. A gray day is always a fine day to work in the hoop house. Janna Goerdt, proprietor of Fat Chicken Farm, whacks a path to get there.

Produce manager Ashley Phoenix began her day at Janna’s place to see how the summer crops are faring, and to lend a hand with a farm chore or two. All in all, the veggies are looking great. The tomatoes needed some thinning out and trellising. Janna showed us how to get the job done.

The tomatoes are coming along, and with a little good weather this week, Janna’s CSA share owners will enjoy some delicious tomatoes very soon.

The co-op has been enjoying her chard and spring mix lately, and all Janna’s greens are looking good.

We met some friends while we were out there. This leopard frog has a pretty good camouflage. He looks healthy, and this garden does too.

A day in the garden is good for the soul. The rewards go far beyond our goodie baskets.

Make no mistake, farming is real work — and dirty stuff. Suckers are just the beginning.

Thanks, Janna, for a wonderful morning. Find her local lettuce and salad mix in the store today!
